On Saturday, May 3, 2025, the second-generation Tsinghua University alumni community in the New York City area gathered for their second local meetup in preparation for the upcoming 6th North American Alumni Conference, taking place May 23–25 in Los Angeles. This picnic is part of a growing series of regionally-led Gen2 events across the U.S., which have included hiking, ice skating, dumpling-making, and more.
Hosted in Central Park on a picture-perfect spring afternoon, the picnic welcomed over 20 attendees - from college and graduate students in STEM fields to young professionals working in finance, tech, consulting, and beyond.
For many, it was their first time connecting with others in the Tsinghua Gen2 network. Despite arriving without knowing anyone, attendees quickly bonded over shared experiences of growing up as Chinese Americans or as Chinese immigrants. Most left not only with new friends, but also new connections and a deeper sense of community.
The TYCon organizing team joined to share details about the upcoming conference and encouraged attendees to join the broader Gen2 network in LA later this month. The event was a clear success, with many participants asking when the next gathering would be.
Organizers are already planning a summer NYC meetup, timed for when more students will be in the city for internships. Stay tuned!
